I can vividly remember when my husband put Lisa in my arms for the first time.  That overwhelming feeling of love as I looked at the most beautiful baby I had ever seen.  And now my baby is having a baby!

One day in mid-November a package arrived here for Lisa.  Bridget sent her a text to let her know and Lisa said she was going to arrange a group FaceTime with she and Adam in London, Gilles at work and us at home so we could open it.  She said it was Adam’s Christmas gift to us since he was not going to be able to come for the holidays.

The excitement these mugs generated!

Bridget came running upstairs and said, “I think it’s a baby announcement”!  Then we both got so excited!  There may have been some tears and we both agreed that we would be incredibly disappointed if it was anything else.  The package contained these awesome mugs!  Again, there were screams and much excitement and more tears as we celebrated the news!

Then we had to keep it a secret…let me tell you, this was one of the few times I was glad I wasn’t seeing many people because that’s a hard secret to keep!  I felt like the news was just going to involuntarily burst out of me!

Last Week’s Baby Bump

It was so awesome to have Lisa here with us for most of December.  I did feel bad that she and Adam had to be apart for their first Christmas, but there was a big part of me that was cherishing the extended visit.  We got to see the baby bump grow as she took pictures each week to send to Adam.

I downloaded the “What to Expect When You’re Expecting” app so I can track the growth from the size of a strawberry to a lime then a lemon, a navel orange and now a pear.  Again, I am grateful for technology, although I have to say that my Facebook ads have shifted to maternity and baby items since I downloaded the app!

Meeting Ethan, July 2018

I can also vividly remember the first time I met “my favourite Ethan”.  That overwhelming feeling of love for my first grandchild was similar to the feeling of having a baby.  And when he put his soft little hands on my face then gave me a hug, my heart melted completely!  I am definitely already experiencing the joy of being a gramma, but Ethan was already a completely adorable 4-year-old when we met, so I am looking forward to getting to experience the prenatal and baby stage for the first time!

I got the news that my dad will be getting the COVID vaccine this week, and as his caregiver, I will also get the vaccine.  I’m thrilled as I think this will greatly reduce the fear of him getting sick.  I am also hoping that being vaccinated makes travel to London easier this summer…because I REALLY REALLY REALLY want to hold that beautiful baby as early, and often, as I can!

This gift is definitely at the top of both my gratitude list and my prayers each day!
