The future’s so bright, I gotta wear shades!

As Canada opens up, I feel a new lightness in the air.  I hope things aren’t moving too fast, but it is thrilling to think that we may be coming to the end of this ordeal.

2021 will go down in my memory as the year I got to hold my grandchildren!  I have booked a flight to Newfoundland in September to visit Phil, Jessica and my favourite Ethan.  I just can’t wait to have long talks with him and hear all about his world – FaceTime is a wonderful thing, but it’s just not the same as the chats where he’s climbing all over me and running from room to room to show me his treasures or we’re reading books with funny voices together.

I am in London and will finish my quarantine on Saturday (more on that visit in my next post).  I will stock up on hugs from Lisa and Adam and their beautiful new baby, Victor!  It seems like so long since I’ve held a newborn and smelled their unique smell and marvelled at their little fingers and toes; I’m brushing up on my nursery rhymes and baby songs and loving every minute of it!

The other exciting news is that our British family will be moving to Ontario in the fall, so we can just drive for our cuddles rather than having to take a flight!

Then in November, we will have to travel west to visit Max and Erika and the bundle of joy who will make his appearance there!  It is so fun to imagine what Christmas and vacations will be like when all 3 grandchildren get together!

Things are looking up in 2021!

And grandchildren aren’t the only great news for this year!  Max and Erika came to visit on the long weekend and we gathered with friends to celebrate Bridget and Adam’s birthdays.  First, we had a wonderful afternoon with our favourite twins and their parents, and then we had friends join us for a party that evening.

It was so “normal” to gather outside and hug vaccinated people and sit around a campfire.  It wasn’t all the way back to pre-Covid times – we only had a few people for dinner and then the snacks were all individual packages so we didn’t share food, but I could feel my cup filling as the day went on.

Not only that, my dad finally had his sinus surgery and is feeling so much better.  Memere is writing her memoirs and I can’t wait to read all of those amazing stories.

Bridget is planning for grad school when she graduates next spring and Adam is leading a great team at the golf course.

I think 2021 is going to continue to have its challenges but I’m feeling hopeful that we will emerge from the COVID dance with new moves that will transform the world around us.

Get your shades out!
